Were you at Sundance? Don't worry, it doesn't sound like a whole lot of folks were. If you were, however, you may have been one of the select few that got to preview Sasha Grey's mainstream (but still indie) acting debut in Steven Soderbergh's latest non-Danny-Ocean-related film, The Girlfriend Experience. The film marks the first occasion in which a relevant porn actress is being directed by an Academy Award winning auteur like Soderbergh. You're probably thinking that we forgot about Zombie Strippers, but as it turns out, director Jay Lee has never actually won any Oscars (and it's been a while since Jenna Jameson was considered relevant).
Anyway, as you may have heard before, The Girlfriend Experience is a non-linear, dialogue-driven story about the relationship between a high-priced call girl and her boyfriend. It was shot in a little over two weeks and featured a cast with relatively little acting experience. In fact, out of the entire cast, Sasha was the only one who had even been in front of the camera before.
"Everyone else in the film is a real person who was cast based on theirs similarity to the character description. It was kind of fun to watch,” Soderbergh said of the film's casting.
So, while we're all dying to check out what is sure to be Sasha's meatiest role since Circa 82, we gotta remind you not to hold your breath waiting. As the old Soder-cat reminded the secret Sundance audience, this is a work in progress with no release date.
"Remember, you weren't here. This didn't happen," Soderbergh told the crowd, as he left the theatre.
Hey, wouldn't it be great if Soderbergh directed the sequel to Massive Facials?

Sasha goes to Hollywood
I'm really interested in the film, and I hope it does well for Sasha. Eva Angelina has expressed she would like to do a non-porn film and both of these girls are so charismatic. Heather Hunter appears in American Gangster. By the way, that's a helluva shot of Miss Grey!
