Don't get me wrong, I loved McHale's Navy just as much as the next guy, but upon learning yesterday that Ernest Borgnine died all I could say was, "Finally!"
You see, to be honest, I thought Borgnine died years ago. I can't even count the numerous arguments I have gotten into at dinner parties over whether he was dead or not. Even when proven wrong (thanks to the advancement of mobile web browsing which permitted almost immediate fact checking) I didn't believe that he was actually alive. I assumed we were arguing over a different Ernest Borgnine.
However, finally, at the age of 95 Ernie has knocked off. My assumption of his death is now factually accurate which certainly makes my dinner party attendance less hostile.
While I'm appalled at CNN's rude reference to Mr. Borgnine as, "The thick-set, gap-toothed Borgnine..." I suppose he won't be able to argue against the typecast any longer. However, I suppose I can forgive CNN because they also just informed me that his birth name was Ermes Effron Borgnino which is a goddamn righteous groove of a name.
Anywhoo, here's Ernie talkin' about Airwolf.
